CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE

Picture
Herbal formulas are often recommended as an adjunct to your acupuncture treatment. Like acupuncture, herbs have been used for thousands of years to balance the body-mind-spirit and promote healing. People often find that a customized herbal formula helps prolong the effect of their acupuncture treatment. Herbs are given for a variety of ailments, including mental and emotional imbalances.

In Chinese Herbal Medicine, herbs are artfully combined into formulas. The power of the herbal formula is greater than the sum of its components. Unlike prescription drugs that only target one receptor or enzyme in the body, herbal formulas are designed to bring balance and healing to the whole body-mind-spirit. Herbs are like music in plant form. When combined, they create a resonance in the body much like notes are combined to create a symphony. The melodic resonance of the herbs reminds the body to flow with ease and in harmony with the seasons.

SYMPTOMATIC TREATMENT

Herbal formulas can be designed to target specific symptoms that are a manifestation of an underlying imbalance in the body. While treating the symptoms is important, a formula will also begin to treat the root causes of dis-ease.

TREATING THE ROOT OF THE DIS-EASE

Once symptoms are alleviated, a formula may be designed to treat the root of the dis-ease. This underlying condition is usually built up over time, and requires more time to restore the original health. It is not unusual to take herbs for several months during this phase.

PREVENTATIVE MEDICINE

Mild herbal tonics and dietetic regimens may be recommended to continue to nourish the body-mind-spirit, and to prevent further dis-ease. Chinese herbs are a wonderful adjunct to regular acupuncture treatment, as well as eating whole foods and practicing movement therapy or exercise regularly.
